Side-Effects and Contradictions

Like with all prescription and non-prescription drugs Acomplia has its side-effects. While some side-effects can be regarded as beneficial — like smoking cessation or lower cholesterol levels — other side-effects are not that pleasant. Some of the most common side-effects that may occur while taking Acomplia include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Headaches, faintness and dizziness.
  • Behavioral disorders such as anxiety, mood swings, depression, nervousness, insomnia.

It is strongly recommended that individuals suffering from mental disorders, clinical depression or undergoing antidepressant treatments do not take Acomplia. Acomplia may induce the symptoms of these conditions and worsen the situation. Altered mood and depressive thought were observed in 1 out of 10 patients taking Acomplia. In very rare cases suicidal thoughts may appear.

In certain circumstances and conditions Acomplia should not be taken, or taken with extreme caution with constant monitoring by a professional doctor. Consult with your healthcare assistant before taking Acomplia if you have one of the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity or allergy reaction to Acomplia or one of its components.
  • Impaired liver function — there is no sufficient data on the influence of Acomplia upon damaged liver.
  • Impaired kidney function.
  • Age less than 18 and over 75 — it is not know how Acomplia affects these groups of patients.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding — Acomplia may damage the fetus and pass through milk. The effects are unknown
  • Epilepsy — there is no data on the effects of Acomplia in these cases.
  • Lactose intolerance — Acomplia tablets contain lactose.
  • Taking CYP3A4 inhibitors, such as ketocinazole, ritonavir and clarthromycin.
